According to the artist; “Drawings and paintings of both
national and international regions create subtle energy and movement.
In contemporary society travel has increased and each individual conducts
a personal journey as a clarification of his or her consciousness. “ He
demonstrates relative interpretations of personal and universal experiences,
this is the exploration of surroundings and influences, coupled with the
observation of sociological phenomena of travelling and displacement.
Matthew O’Kane completed a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting in 2006 at the
National College of Art and Design Dublin and a MSc in Multimedia at Dublin
City University 2007.
O'Kane was honoured with an important commission for the Schuster Gallery,
Frankfurt in 2003. In 2004, his work was purchased for the Permanent Collection
of the National College of Art and Design. Matthew exhibited in ‘New Irish
Painting’ in the Context Gallery, Derry 2005 and also completed his Erasmus
Exchange Programme to Krakow, Poland. Matthew’s work is represented in
the Department of Justice and Office of Public Works. In 2007 O'Kane was short
listed for a digital media award with Ashville Media Group and had a ‘New’
Three Person Exhibition at The Paul Kane Gallery in February and also
featured in the Summer Group Exhibition 2007. O'Kane was included in the ‘Invited
Artists’ Exhibition at Boyle Arts Festival, Roscommon, and was shortlisted for the Wexford Opera House Comission. O'Kane's work has been acquired for the permanant collection of the Industrial Development Agency of Ireland.
